At McKenna Kennels Pet Resort, we treat your precious pets as our own. Our company has been family owned and operated since 1933, so you can trust that we know how to make sure your pets are safe and happy while they are with us. We know it can be a difficult time for you and your pet to be away from each other, but we assure you that we keep your furry family members occupied and feeling loved.
For all of our fur guest safety we require all dogs to be up to date on their vaccinations which include: Distemper, Rabies, and Bordetella. Leptosporosis is recommended but not required.
We also need them to be treated for flea/ticks (if they come in and we find fleas we will treat and the owner will be charged for the treatment). All of above must be given at least a minimum of a week prior to coming in.
Puppies have to be at least 16 weeks with proof of their complete puppy series vaccinations.
There are no exceptions to this rule in order to protect your dog and the rest of our guests.
At McKenna Kennels Pet Resort, as pet owners ourselves, we understand it takes a lot of trust to leave your furry family member in the hands of someone else. Don't let that stop you from taking that vacation or going to see your family for the weekend. You have no need to worry about your pup while they are staying with us. You can rest assured that with our level of care and the quality of our dog boarding facilities in Roy, Washington, they will be happy and comfortable.
Our medium/large breed spaces are 4x12 completely covered shaving run with a dog house in the back which is heated in the winter months. Our guests get out daily into our yards, which is included with board.
The small breed area is in the house with AC in the summer months & are heated in the winter. We provide bedding, but you are more than welcome to bring your own!

Bring your furry friend to us for the day and let him/her get out some energy while you are at work. McKenna Kennels, has seen amazing transformations in dogs from spending days here with us in doggy daycare. Some have started out very timid and not wanting to socialize with the other dogs, to now not wanting to leave because they have made friends with the other dogs here! It is a great experience for your dog and so worth it to see how much fun they are having while you can't be with them.
We offer daycare Tuesday's & Thursday's 9-3. There is an option for early drop off/ late pick up with the purchase of a daycare package. We require an appointment to learn the code and proper procedures for the first time.

This is a foundation / basic manners class where we will focus on teaching basic ground manners and behaviors using reward and engagement. This class is great for dogs of all ages, from puppies to adolescent dogs, or even older dogs that just need a refresher. This class is also perfect for dogs just getting settled in a new home. Topics will include good manners, appropriate greetings, loose leash walking, sit, down, stay, recall and more.
Do you have an overly exuberant, bouncy dog bursting with energy? Often impulsive and a bit hyperactive, these dogs have a difficult time focusing and seem to act without thinking.
Rowdy to Well Mannered is similar to our Companion Dog Manners Class by specifically geared for these excitable dogs. We will focus on skills to help these dogs be successful by channeling this energy for good with impulse control and building focus as well as appropriate greetings and weeding out unwanted behaviors.
This manners class is for shy dogs and or small dogs that might be overwhelmed or intimidated in a class with large/boisterous dogs. In addition to covering the basics such as sit, down, stay, recall and loose leash walking, we will focus on building confidence and management strategies to help shy and small dogs to cope with scary situations. Exercises will be geared to help these wallflower dogs come out of their shells and teach their humans how to set them up for success when faced with fearful situations.
This class is not appropriate for any dog that bark, lunge or growl at other dogs.
This is suitable for dogs that have some level of reactivity and or specific issues that would not fit well in a group atmosphere.
* We do not accept dogs who have true aggression issues with either other dogs or people and would recommend contacting a Certified Animal Behaviorist for these conditions.*
McKenna Kennels has an outstanding training facility that consists of 110 acres, and 5 separate training ponds. All training is conducted using live and freshly shot mallard ducks, ring neck pheasants and pigeons. Live birds are planted for gun dogs learning to quarter. Birds are used exclusively on all marking set ups. Unlike some training programs that rely extensively on mechanical bumper throwers, McKenna Kennels utilizes human throwers for marking setups.
All of the dogs are fed Purina dog food that meets their individual need. We offer Senior, Puppy, Weight Management, Sensitive Skin all made by Purina.
McKenna Kennels spends the winter in Niland California, the premier winter training grounds on the west coast. The weather is ideal for dog training, with day time highs in the winter ranging from the mid 60s to the high 70s and night time low temperatures are in the 40s to 50s. These mild temperatures create an ideal climate to allow both land and water work to continue all winter. The winter trip runs November through March. Of course this is weather dependent, the trip may start earlier or later depending on the weather in either location, with the goal being to optimize the training for the dogs. Only a limited number of dogs are accepted for the winter trip, ensuring that each dog receives plenty of individualized training. A winter trip fee does apply .
McKenna Kennels has two outstanding training facilities. The summer facilities are located in McKenna Washington and the winter grounds are located in Niland California. Both locations are in prime dog training territory, with hundreds of acres of specially developed retriever training grounds complete with natural and technical training ponds. With full size kennel runs at both locations. Over the last few years, these grounds have produced four National field champions.By utilizing both summer and winter grounds, dogs can be worked on land and water year round, maintaining them in top condition. Trials are ran in both locations, extending the trial season a potential of 12 months out of the year.
It can be stressful to board your pet. If you have any questions or concerns about how we make your pet's home away from home, please reach out. We will get back to you soon!
